Windsurfing: levington Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: F 4- 5 Surf / Sea State: chop Air Temperature: warmish Sea Temperature: warmish Weather: Sunny then rain Max Speed: 25.7 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 11nm (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
After sitting it out at the dippy Dip @ Felixstowe (sic) on Sat with the
wind around 30kts and my smallest sail being 5.3 I was depressed watching
the guys having a great time especially as the lower tide made it my seas.
Sunday the wind was Westerly around 15-20kts but not many sailing options
as offshore at Felixstowe.
After faffing and wasting time checking round went to Levington 11.30 to
see Andy M (Mike x 2) and another sailor blasting I knew I cocked Sun as
well.
It was my fastest rigging yet - maybe 25 mins Pryde 6.7 H2 cammed slalom
sail, then the wind dropped and the rain pissed down! Bastarrrddddd! The
wind now died and they were all in with Michael packing up with the usual
grin on the face - you should have got here @ 9.30 like I did!
Just as I was thinking about p***ing off home, the rain stopped, the sun
shun and I sniffed wind. Was going to use 114L but switched to the 146L pro
excite ride just incase - as there was only about 1 hour of tide left.
By the time I had my suit on the boom! the wind was back and I rocketed off
way over powered! The first run was a nightmare, as had set the sail too
full. A quick adjustment on the far bank sorted out a great hour. Over
powered mainly, but as it was gusty, the small pockets of lull was handy
for a rest, as you stayed in the harness.
Had a few wipe outs as was practising gybing at 25kts, simply bearing off
to max speed and cranking the gybe low. Flipping great on flat water! Pity
I can do that on the waves at Felixstowe. :(
Andy Marshall had a good day as he was there early and planing pretty
quick. Did try to chase him, but he had me covered. Stayed on the board the
full hour but the wind was a little gusty, switching to including some
southerly, and the chop was big for the 146L oh to be on the smaller slalom
board.
My depression (which would have lasted all week) went after that set. The
water started running out about 1.30 ish and the rain threathened, so after
an hour rather than rest packed up leaving Phil T who turned up later than
me, milking the last of the wind.
The chop went on the outgoing tide but the wind dropped considerably, but
not bad at all.
Made it home 2.45 as promised to take her out :)
